Under the authority of the Public Health Director and under the supervision of the Public Health Surveillance and Planning Coordinator, the advisor will promote the interests, needs and concerns of the population of Nunavik with regard to research projects and public health investigations planned or already underway in the region.
The officer responsibilities will include the following, but not be limited to:
• Work with the public health team, other NRBHSS teams, regional partners and researchers to ensure the relevance of health research and survey projects for Nunavik Inuit;
• Ensure an Inuit perspective in research and survey projects;
• Support Inuit capacity building in research and survey projects;
• Support collaboration between the public health research and surveillance team, researchers and Inuit communities;
• Support the dissemination, communication of activities and results of research and survey projects;
• Participate in health investigation committees and the Nunavik Nutrition and Health Committee;
• Review and evaluate project proposals and scientific drafts/papers
High school diploma
Two years of professional or educational experience
Work experience may be considered
Knowledge of Inuit social and cultural values
Knowledge of regional issues
Excellent communication and decision-making skills
Excellent analytical skills
Ability to work without close supervision
Ability to work independently and within a team
Oral and written communication skills in two of the three languages used in Nunavik (Inuktitut, English, French)
Functional knowledge of the Office suite (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
Availability for travel
Candidates who are beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement shall receive priority.
Permanent, full-time position (35 hours/week)
Position based in Kuujjuaq or in teleworking from any community with access to the Internet;
Salary according to the rules set forth by the MSSS (27.08$/h to 47.98$/h)
Northern benefits: retention premium ($6,000/year), isolation premium ($10,627/year), cost-of-living allowance ($3,085/year) and, if hired more than 50 km from Kuujjuaq, subsidized housing provided, moving and storage expenses reimbursed, annual personal trips from Kuujjuaq to point of hiring provided, etc.
