2020-013 Nurse, Screening Campaigns for Tuberculosis, STBBIs

The regional plan of action to eliminate tuberculosis in Nunavik includes population-screening campaigns for tuberculosis (TB). Under the direct supervision of the pivot nurse and within a multidisciplinary team, the nurse shall provide screening for tuberculosis +/- STBBIs according to public-health guidelines for each individual.




Apply screening algorithms as applicable;

Participate in population-screening strategies within the community (schools, day-cares, homes, etc.);

Proceed with nursing clinical evaluations;

Perform and interpret tuberculin skin tests (TSTs);

Take specimens of blood, urine, induced sputum, etc.;

Enter information into the various databases (provincial vaccination registry, screening records, etc.);

Begin treatment for newly diagnosed cases of TB and/or STBBIs;

Proceed with investigation of contact cases;

Work closely with the Public Health team, the clinical physician and the other professionals involved;

Ensure appropriate follow-up to records;

Carry out other related tasks.


Collegial-studies diploma (DEC) in nursing or bachelor’s degree in nursing sciences

Membership in good standing with the OIIQ

Familiarity with the Québec immunization protocol (PIQ)

Up-to-date CPR/AED certification

Bilingualism (English and French)

Availability for work on a variable schedule

Availability for work in a remote region

Excellent communication skills

Aptitude for teamwork

Skills at taking blood specimens

Familiarity with the MS Office suite

Experience in Nunavik and familiarity with Inuit culture shall be considered assets

Experience in a multicultural context shall be considered an asset

Experience in vaccination and vaccination campaigns shall be considered an asset

Experience in pediatrics shall be considered an asset

Valid driver’s license in case of door-to-door screening


Candidates who are beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement shall receive priority.

Conditions and benefits

Temporary, occasional, part-time position of one year with possibility of extension

Salary according to the rules set forth by the MSSS

During travel, the northern premiums stipulated in the working conditions shall be provided as well as housing.


Note that employees of the health and social services network are eligible for northern leave without pay.
