Under the authority of the Executive Director and in accordance with the Public health act and the Act respecting health services and social services, the person holding the position is responsible for informing the population of the general state of health of the individuals who compose it, priority health problems, the main risk factors and the most effective interventions. The person is responsible for identifying situations likely to endanger the health of the population and for ensuring that the necessary measures are put in place for its protection. In addition, the director acts in the field of prevention of diseases, social problems and injuries as well as health promotion. As such, the person leads intersectoral actions and acts in support of community development.
The director is also responsible for the planning and implementation of the Regional Public Health Action Plan. She or he manages a team of 80 people working in four domains (infectious diseases, prevention-promotion, surveillance-planning in public health and occupational health-environmental health), which are coordinated by seven middle managers.
Be a member of the Collège des médecins du Québec and be trained in community health care or, exceptionally, having five years of experience in the practice of community health care;
Experience of at least five (5) years in the health and social services network and significant experience in a management position;
Experience in a northern environment will be considered an asset;
Very good understanding of the health and social services sector, its administration and its legal framework;
Engaging leadership;
Change management skills;
Able to resolve complex situations;
Good planning and organizational skills;
Sensitive to the cultural and social issues of indigenous peoples;
Verbal and written communication skills in English and French. Knowledge of Inuktitut will be considered an asset.
Candidates who are beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement shall receive priority.

Salary according to the rules set forth by the MSSS (class G with an increase for work in an isolated region )
Northern benefits: retention premium ($6,000/year), isolation premium ($10,627/year), cost-of-living allowance ($3,085/year) and, if hired more than 50 km from Kuujjuaq, subsidized housing provided, moving and storage expenses reimbursed, annual personal trips from Kuujjuaq to point of hiring provided, etc.
