Educator or Community Worker - Youth Protection

The Inuulitsivik Health Center, with over 950 employees, is part of the Quebec health and social services network, Nunavik region. It provides front-line health and social services to the population of the Hudson Bay territory, which is made up of approximately 7,000 people, including prevention, assessment, diagnosis and treatment, rehabilitation and support services. In addition, it provides services related to youth protection as well as the management, for the Nunavik region, of Ullivik located in Dorval. The mission of the latter is to receive Inuit people who need health services in participating Montreal hospitals. The Inuit population is spread over seven communities on the Hudson Bay coast, from Kuujjuaraapik to Salluit.

A person who provides immediate education and rehabilitation in collaboration with the team of professionals in place, with a view to the rehabilitation of the individual and/or his/her reintegration into his/her community. He/she applies educational techniques using daily life activities, organizing, coordinating and facilitating the activities planned to ensure the learning and acquisition of appropriate attitudes and behaviours. Person who, as a member of the team of caregivers and in collaboration with internal and external partners, provides individual and group support to children or adolescents with various problems (social skills deficits, hyperactivity, opposition, etc.) or with adjustment difficulties (behavioural problems, attachment problems, etc.)
mental health problems or indicators, etc.). It also provides services to the families of these children and adolescents.
She observes and analyzes the behaviour of the users, participates in the evaluation of their needs and abilities and notes the evolution by writing the appropriate documents. It provides the programming of these activities.
In accordance with the legal framework governing the situation of young people, she develops the intervention plan and ensures its application and revision according to the clinical process.
She contributes to the smooth functioning of the team and may be called upon to accompany interns and new employees. Assures periods of on-call psychosocial emergencies (support to interveners). Willingness to travel to the communities. 

Qualifications
  • College diploma in special education techniques or in delinquency intervention techniques or in social assistance techniques;
Experience required
  • Have a good knowledge of the clinical process and intervention protocols in place in youth protection and have a thorough knowledge of the concept of protection;
  • Have a theoretical knowledge and understanding of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) and the Health and Social Services Act (HSSA);
Essential skills and aptitudes
  • Fluent in French and English, both written and spoken;
  • Valid driver's license;
  • Knowledge of Inuktitut would be an important asset;
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong team spirit;
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills;
  • Flexibility and excellent adaptability skills;
  • Strong interest in working in a different cultural context and environment;
  • Good ability to work under pressure and in an emergency context;
  • Ability to solve complex problems in a context where resources are limited. 
Conditions and benefits

Permanent full-time positions in the villages of Hudson Bay
According to the salary scale corresponding to job title 2691 - Educator - or 2375 - Community Worker for Health and Social Services staff. 
35hours/week
Cargo premium of $24.78 to $35.67/week depending on the village
Removal premium from 203,66$ to 423,53$/week with dependent depending on the village
Retention premium from 114.99$ to 206.02$/week depending on the village
3 to 4 annual outings depending on family status
Furnished housing provided
Air transportation paid by the center
9 weeks in the North followed by 4 weeks of leave in the South depending on family status.

**Workers who are currently in the health and social services network can request a Nordic leave without pay (up to 48 months) to work in Nunavik.
