INUIT VALUES AND PRACTICES MANAGER

Position Overview


The Inuit Values and Practices (IVP) Manager plays a crucial role in:

  • Assisting in developing activities, supply activities, and therapeutic services based on Inuit culture and practices.
  • Working with other departments to ensure all services and activities offered by Isuarsivik are culturally relevant and safe.
  • Promoting the development of a positive cultural identity amongst Inuit staff and guests.

 

Purpose of Position


Under the direction of the Director of Programs, the Inuit Values and Practices Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating activities and therapeutic services based on Inuit culture and practices.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Planning

  • Plans the development of activities and therapeutic services based on Inuit culture and practices, such as: cultural/traditional counselling, art activities, and on-the-land activities.
  • Contributes to the revision of the current clinical program and design of the family program.
  • Ensures the inclusion of solid cultural/traditional and on-the-land components in the Centre’s programming.
  • Supports the human resources manager in planning the following processes: hiring, training, and professional development of Inuit Values and Practices Department staff.


Management

  • Supervises directly the IVP Department staff (coordinator and support staff).
  • In collaboration with the Program Recovery Manager, supports employees of the Department’s team.
  • In collaboration with Program Recovery Manager, ensures services and activities offered by Isuarsivik are culturally relevant and safe.
  • Ensures guests can express themselves in Inuktitut.
  • Evaluates the services offered by the Department and makes the necessary changes to meet guests’ needs.
  • Liaises with partner organizations’ managers to ensure proper coordination and integration of services at the community and regional levels.

 

Qualifications


Education

  • University degree in a discipline of social intervention (an asset).
  • Training in Inuit culture and practices.
  • Training in counselling.
  • Completion of a management program would (an asset).


Work Experience

  • 2 years in the field of social intervention (an asset).
  • 1 year of experience as a supervisor.
  • Experience in the field of addictions, inpatient or outpatient program (an asset).
  • Experience in service planning (an asset). 


Knowledge and Skills

  • Personal and professional experience in a cross-cultural setting.
  • Ability to draft reports, documents, and work plans on a computer.
  • Strong ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Ability to work outside standard office hours.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Willingness to submit to a criminal record check.


Language

  • Ability to read, write, and speak Inuktitut as well as English (mandatory).
  • Ability to read, write and speak French (an asset).

 

Work Environment
 

  • Isuarsivik is undergoing a major transition that requires flexibility, creativity, and adaptability.
  • The incumbent must balance multiple demands and urgent requests from guests, staff, and partners.
  • The incumbent must also be prepared to meet the personal and professional challenges associated with living in a northern, isolated community with limited resources.

 

Salary/Benefits
 

  • Working conditions are based on Nunavik’s health and social services network.
  • Salary will be determined depending on qualifications and experience.
  • Probation period.
  • Mentorship or training program available (if requirements are not met).
