Public Health General Practitioner

The Public Health Branch of the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services wishes to recruit a general practitioner to join its infectious disease team as a medical consultant.


Nunavik, the northernmost region of Quebec, has 14 villages accessible only by air (daily flights) or by boat during the summer period. Inhabited by a 90% Inuit population, it offers opportunities for exceptional experiences. Nunavik’s public health branch, composed of 80 people, is growing rapidly. The mandates are varied, offer interesting challenges and are rich in learning.



As a member of the infectious diseases team of the Nunavik Public Health Directorate, you will be involved in the prevention and control of infectious diseases. You will be asked to:


·         Support management nursing advisors and health centres in managing infectious disease outbreaks including COVID-19, STBBIs, enteric diseases, tuberculosis, etc.

·         Support nursing advisors in the prevention and control of other notifiable diseases (OMD), outbreaks and nosocomial infections, and immunization.

·         Support the development of clinical protocols and tools and their dissemination and ownership by health care workers (doctors, nurses, Inuit workers).

·         Collaborate on communications activities for the local population, clinicians and leaders.

·         Participate in the Infectious Disease and Environmental Health Emergency Care and Response Service.


-          Be a member in good standing of the Collège des médecins du Québec.

-          Become a member in good standing of the CMDP-SF of the Ungava Tulattavik Health Centre.

-          Have an interest in the field of infectious diseases

-          Undertake a training plan to develop public health skills and knowledge of the Nunavik region during the first year of employment

-          Be available for stays in the region.

-          Be able to work effectively as a team in a multi-site environment.

-          Verbal and written communication skills in English and French.

-          Be sensitive to the cultural and social issues of Indigenous peoples.


-          Will be considered:

  • Knowledge of the northern environment;
  • Basic public health training;
  • Experience working in infectious disease prevention and control.

Conditions and benefits

-          Minimum commitment of 4 days per week.

-          Work location based in Quebec City or at home while working from home, with occasional travel within the territory.

-          Blended, hourly or fixed fee compensation in accordance with existing agreements.

-          On-the-job travel and living expenses are covered by the Public Health Directorate.

-          Pay differentiated according to the scale provided for under-resourced territories and applied for hours worked in the region.
