STERILIZATION ATTENDANT

The Inuulitsivik Health Centre, with more than 900 employees, is part of the Québec health and social services network in the Nunavik region. The Inuit population of the Hudson subregion is distributed among seven communities, from Kuujjuaraapik to Salluit.

The sterilization attendant performs various tasks related to the sterilization of materials and equipment and, as applicable, operates devices for that purpose. The attendant assumes his or her functions in the central sterilization unit, the operating room or a unit with an organized sterilization system or part thereof.

The sterilization attendant performs other tasks, as applicable, such as the transport and distribution of materials from the central sterilization unit:

  • Reprocess and sterilize reusable medical devices for specialized services, the care unit, the CLSC, the maternity ward and the dentistry department of the Inuulitsivik Health Centre;
  • Set up a central sterilization unit;
  • Assess the needs in matters of supply and maintenance of equipment for this activity sector;
  • Order the supplies necessary to the unit’s activities;
  • Ensure the maintenance of sterilization devices;
  • Act as resource person for the teams responsible for sterilization in all seven communities of the Hudson subregion;
  • Jointly with the sector for the prevention and control of infections, set up a sterilization program for the Puvirnituq hospital as well as the six other communities served;
  • Provide training and ensure follow-up with the teams responsible for sterilization in the six other communities of the Hudson coast;
  • Comply with the norms in effect in order to respect standards of quality;
  • Work closely with the various activity sectors.

Qualifications
  • Attestation to collegial studies in sterilization techniques; relevant experience may be taken into consideration
  • Written and oral communications skills in French and English
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in sterilization
  • Knowledge of the norms for handling sterilization devices and equipment
  • Experience in scope sterilization
  • Good sense of responsibility
  • Autonomy
Conditions and benefits

  • Maximum of 16 weeks’ leave per year
  • Cargo allowance of $115.64 
  • Isolation premium of $191.93 
  • Three to four annual trips depending on status
  • Day shift of 36.25 hours per week
