Midwife
STATUS : 2 permanent full-time positions (36h25/weekly)
STARTING DATE : As soon as possible
The team consists of a Midwife with extensive experience in maternity care in remote areas. We work in interdisciplinary with nurses, doctors and social workers to provide care to women who are low and intermediate-risk pregnancies. We are part of the emergency evacuation team for premature deliveries or other obstetric or neonatal emergencies.
This is a great opportunity for a Midwife to live the experience and professional challenges of working in a remote northern area. The training of students is a priority for the organization. The involvement of Midwives in training them is essential and an integral part of their work. FUNCTIONS :
Ensures follow-up on pregnancies, deliveries and immediate postpartum care for the mother and child
Provide intrapartum, prenatal, and postpartum care
Work with the nursing team to provide front-line care to women
Consult the Doctors according to the protocols put in place
Prescribing medications according to protocols and administering medications prescribed by physicians
Administer vaccination according to the protocols
Work in partnership with village nursing and midwifery teams
Engage and contribute to the training of local student midwives
Responsibilities include :
Clinics three days week: routine prenatal and postnatal visits including blood and laboratory work;
Being on call according to the schedule;
Attending as primary care giver at labour, birth and postpartum;
Supervising students;
Consult Medical team and transfer primary care according to protocols;
Doing daily visits to the Maternity and participate in postnatal care with the postnatal workers;
Prepare cases and participate in the review of files with the Nursing and Medical Team.
Must be registered at “l‘Ordre des sages-femmes du Québec” before the beginning of the employment;
Experience working with selected type of client;
Updated certification in advanced neonatal resuscitation; certification in obstetric emergency;
Perfect command of English, knowledge of Inuktitut is an asset;
The ability for teamwork;
Availability and flexibility;
Excellent communication and teaching skills;
Valid driver's license.
SALARY : Min.: $1,146.23 Max: $1,945.18 / week
ISOLATION PREMIUM : $203.66/week or more as per the family status
HIGH COST OF LIVING : $61.16/week or more, according to family status
RETENTION PREMIUM : $383.29$/week
Availability premium: the employee on availability after her regular workday or workweek receives, for each period of eight (8) hours, an allowance equivalent to one (1) hour at single rate
Call-back: if there is a call-back to work when the employee has left the institution and is not on call, she receives for each call-back: 1. a transportation allowance equivalent to one (1) hour at straight time; 2. a minimum of two (2) hours pay at the overtime rate. It is understood that work performed immediately before or after the regular work period is not a call-back
Any employee recruited in Quebec more than 50 kilometers from the locality in which she/he is called upon to perform her/his duties, will be granted annual trips and lodging unit as per her/his status (transit or shared lodging if necessary).
