SOCIAL WORKER - MENTAL HEALTH

Under the authority of the Director of Community Services and supervised by the Coordinator of CLSC Social Services, the Social Worker in the Adult, Mental Health position works in collaboration with the local Community Worker(s)-Social Aid(s) to deliver day-to-day generic social services carrying specific responsibilities for providing services to individuals 18 years of age and over as well as their families when appropriate. A particular target group is adults with severe and persistent mental health problems. The social worker is well-organized, comfortable with crisis intervention and problems of suicide, family violence, sexual abuse, and addiction as well as severe and persistent mental health problems.

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of CLSC Social Services, the SW will:

  1. Offer psychosocial services to adults (individuals, couples) in distress.
  2. Offer psychosocial services to adult suffering from depression, PTSD, situational distress, etc.).
  3. Offer psychosocial services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental health problems (as well as other diagnoses including intellectual disability, substance abuse, etc.).
  4. Manage finances of clients under Curatorship and of clients who have agreed to allow their money to be managed.
  5. As needed and when possible, the social worker may facilitate group work with adults on a variety of problems/issues, including substance abuse.
  6. Contribute to a working environment which will target the enhanced autonomy of the CWsSAs through joint interviews and home visits, case discussions, team meetings, etc.
  7.  Intervene directly with clients at the request of the client him/herself, Community Worker, or the Coordinator, in difficult situations or in those in which there is a conflict of interest.
  8. Work in collaboration with a wide variety of partners within IHC (such as nurses, doctors, mental health residential resources) as well as in the community including the municipal council, religious leaders, KRPF, etc.
  9. Organize, in collaboration with the Community Worker(s), weekly work schedules, on call duties, etc.
  10. Evaluate the necessity for protective supervision by the Public Curator. Complete evaluations and re-evaluations as required.
  11. Provide information and interpretation of different laws touching the clinical setting (e. g., Law P-38, TAQ, Public Curator, etc.).
  12. As part of a team, the social worker participates in assuring the smooth functioning of the CLSC Social Services office in collaboration with the Community Worker(s) (e. g., ordering supplies, arranging for repairs to office equipment, etc.).
  13. Fulfill the requirements for clinical recording and weekly statistical reports.
  14. Liaise with other organizations in the North and the South (e. g., Aaniavituqarq, Reintegration Center, TAQ, psychiatric hospitals, Public Curator, etc.).
  15. Prepare and deliver public education and prevention activities with the Community Worker(s) and/or workers in Prevention and Promotion;
  16. Perform any other tasks requested by the coordinator.


 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work;
  • Member of the Quebec Order of Social Workers;
Experience required
  • Minimum of two years experience in the Québec Health and Social Services network;
  • Experience in psychiatric illness and home care is an asset;
  • Bilingual (French and English);

Conditions and benefits
  • Hourly rate between $27.08 and $47.98
  • Cargo premium: $146.29/week
  • Remoteness premium: 240.25$/week without dependant or 423.53$/week with dependant;
  • Retention premium: $134.15/week;
  • Furnished housing provided; 
  • Moving and storage expenses reimbursed by the center;
  • Up to 16 weeks leave per year;
